What Hums in the Night

The animals of … - predator and prey alike - gather together as night falls and... sing.

The howls, clicks, chirps, roars and hisses seem discordant at first, but underneath lies a recognizable melody. The crew of the … suggest it's even rather pleasant to hear.

We believe an external influence must have interfered in order to develop this non-sapient choir. We cannot fathom as to why, however we may be able to figure out how they did it.

There are structures on …, though most are less than ruins and more akin to rubble. The …'s initial pass over the planet reveals only one building that can be considered intact, seemingly spared whatever calamity robbed … of its buildings and builders alike.

This is the source of the noise.

It is a production facility of some sort, turning plasticine polymers into mute objects of uncertain, but possibly ornamental, purpose. The raw materials and end product are largely uninteresting to the …, but we could doubtlessly stand to learn something from the automated manufacturing process itself.
